Born in Trinidad and Tobago and later making his home in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Carlyle N. Matthew devoted more than four decades to creating sculptures and masks that bridged cultures, landscapes, and lived experience. His work draws upon the vibrant traditions of Caribbean Carnival, African artistic heritage, and the quiet expanses of the Canadian landscape to explore themes of identity, spirituality, transformation, and our shared humanity.
